For several weeks now I’ve had some issues with algae on the glass of my original cube tank (35g). It seems to be taking hold quickly even when I scrape the glass and reduce the lighting time. I’m going to clean up the tank again tomorrow and keep the light off for most of the day to try and get a handle on it. I have concerns about the plants, as I’m down to 8hrs or less of lighting, but I think getting the algae under control is the more important issue.
This tank has been setup for almost two years now, and I haven’t had much for issues until this. I’ve been doing very extensive gravel cleans the last few water changes, which seemed to help short term. The water parameters are stable just before a water change at 0.25 Ammonia, 0.00 Nitrate, and 25 Nitrate. So chemically, it seems the tank is stable. I’m going through the steps in our knowledge base article on controlling algae on the glass.
Fish seem to be unaffected, so its a bit of a puzzle I need to work on when I get a few days off my regular job.
Thanks for listening.
