White Cloud Mountain Minnows are valued for their ease of care and their active, social behavior. They make a charming addition to a freshwater aquarium, particularly if you want a lively group of fish.

Tank Setup

A fine gravel or sand substrate works well. It should be clean and not too rough, as this can irritate the fish. Include plenty of live or artificial plants, as well as hiding spots like rocks and driftwood. Plants like Java Moss or Anubias are great choices and also provide breeding grounds for the fish. A gentle filter, such as a sponge filter or a filter with adjustable flow rate, is ideal. Strong currents can stress the minnows. Provide moderate lighting. White Cloud Mountain Minnows do not require intense lighting, but a regular light cycle will help maintain a healthy aquarium environment. Aim for around 8-10 hours of light per day to mimic natural day/night cycles. Ensure there’s plenty of open swimming space, especially if you’re keeping a school of them. They are active swimmers and need room to move around.

Diet & Feeding

Provide a varied diet that includes high-quality flake food, micro-pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or daphnia. Feed them 2-3 times a day in small amounts.

Breeding

If you plan to breed them, add fine-leaved plants or a breeding mop where the fish can scatter their eggs. Remove the adults after spawning to prevent them from eating the eggs.

Tank Mates

These minnows are peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive fish. Suitable tank mates include other small, peaceful species such as Corydoras catfish, small tetras, and other small freshwater fish. Avoid aggressive or large fish that may intimidate or outcompete the minnows for food.
