Water hardness refers to the amount of dissolved minerals, mainly calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺), in water. When water contains high levels of these minerals, it is considered “hard.” On the other hand, water with low concentrations of calcium and magnesium is called “soft water.”
